Summer Fitness

Helllo :)

Before and during summer seems to be the time that everyone wants to become fit and healthy. Though I believe that you should want to and work towards being fit and healthy all year round, now is probably a good time to write about it because so many people want to read it. This is just a quick little post about what I (try to) do to stay healthy.

Fitness-wise I used to love to run. I go through phases where I just want to run everywhere and phases where running sounds like an activity made popular by the devil himself (I know that sounds really extreme... I have extreme feelings about cardio).
When I don't feel like running, I go straight to HIIT. HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training, and it is exactly how it sounds. High intensity exercises done in groups with very little rest in between. I know that sounds deadly.. and sometimes it is.. but the great thing about HIIT? Most of the workouts are only between 10 and 30 minutes long :) So basically it's going to be hard, but it's only going to be hard for a short amount of time and it's totally going to be worth it.
On days that I don't feel like HIIT or cardio, there's always yoga. I'm going to try and do yoga daily, whether or not I've done another workout. If you haven't tried yoga, give it a chance. You'll feel fantastic afterwards.

As far as diet goes, I try not to restrict myself. If I'm going to eat healthy it's going to be because that's what makes me feel good; and it does. If I really feel like eating something that's not great for my body, that's fine too. Just eat it. There's nothing wrong with that.
I'll make a more detailed blog post on both my diet and the workouts I like to do later this month, but here's a summary of what I eat:
- Natural Foods: things like fruit, whole grains, veggies, eggs, etc. I try to stay away from processed foods. Reading a label and knowing that everything in the ingredients is something natural makes me feel really good about eating it :) Your body will thank you.
